El temblor de magnitud 6,1 que sacudió el país , con epicentro en El Calvario, Meta, ha puesto en relieve la importancia de la preparación para eventos sísmicos y la seguridad de las infraestructuras, en particular, la de los ascensores. Con frecuencia, estos dispositivos están en funcionamiento durante los sismos, lo que plantea preguntas sobre su seguridad como vía de evacuación y cómo determinar si están en condiciones de uso después del evento.
Jairo Castro, gerente comercial de Estilo Ingeniería, enfatiza la importancia de seguir un protocolo específico para mantener la seguridad en estos casos. "Los sismos pueden ocasionar movimientos fuertes y asimétricos, que se replican en la estructura a la que está sujeto el ascensor. Esto podría provocar atascos. Por lo tanto, es recomendable bajarse en el piso más cercano y evacuar el edificio a través de las vías de escape designadas, generalmente las escaleras de emergencia", señaló Castro.
En caso de quedar atascado dentro del ascensor, se aconseja no intentar salir por medios propios. En lugar de eso, presione el botón de alarma para que el equipo de mantenimiento y la administración del edificio puedan coordinar el rescate de manera segura y oportuna.
Evaluación y precauciones
Una vez que el terremoto ha pasado, surge la cuestión de si es seguro usar los ascensores nuevamente. Se recomienda llevar a cabo un recorrido de prueba antes de permitir que las personas utilicen los ascensores con normalidad. Este proceso implica mover los ascensores entre los pisos, tanto de arriba a abajo como viceversa, sin pasajeros a bordo. El propósito es verificar si existen anomalías en el funcionamiento de los equipos después del sismo.

Según Jairo Castro, la estructura de las cabinas de los ascensores está conectada al edificio a través de guías verticales. Los movimientos asimétricos durante un terremoto podrían deformar estas guías, resultando en movimientos irregulares y potencialmente peligrosos. Si se identifica cualquier problema en el movimiento, es esencial ponerse en contacto con la compañía de mantenimiento y retirar el ascensor de circulación de manera preventiva.
